Held in Le Grand Palais in Paris, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show went down at – perhaps – their most glamorous venue yet, where Channel has regularly held their runway presentations since 2006. This time, the legendary event space was transformed into a Winter Wonderland of epic proportions!
The Victoria’s Secret 2016 Fashion Show missed two rather prominent Angels missing from the lineup this year, as new mothers Candice Swanepoel and Behati Prinsloo sit out. However, the following Angels will be taking part: Alessandria Ambrosio, Lily Aldridge, Adriana Lima, Martha Hunk, Jasmine Tookes, Elsa Hosk, Stella Maxwell, Sara Sampaio, Taylor Hill, Lais Ribeiro, Romee Strijd and Josephine Skriver. Also, A-list models like Kendall Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Jourdana Phillips, and Jasmine Tookes have joined the American lingerie brand most prestigious runway.
Behati Prinsloo opened the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show two years in a row. But for 2016, Elsa Hosk got the honor and stepped out in a black lace bodysuit with thigh-high PVC boots.
The show was divided into six thematic sections: Road Ahead, Mountain Romance, Pink Nation, Secret Angel, Dark Angel and Bright Night Angel.
The Mountain Romance section opened with a backlit profile of Lady Gaga engulfed in smoke. The Million Reasons singer slowly worked her way up the runway in a long, black lace gown with large red roses and matching lipstick as models walked past her, sometimes holding on to their hands for a while before they walked on. Bruno Mars also performed his hit 24k Magic in a black tuxedo and fur coat, bringing the audience to their feet.
But it was The Weeknd that got the most cheers of the night. The singer serenaded Bella Hadid — his on-and-off girlfriend — with his hit song Starboy, and nearly followed her up the catwalk as she walked in a lace gown with silk organza corset.
Also, during the show, Lily Aldridge shared, she was touched by Gaga, because of – besides her exceptional performance stage, what she did on the backstage. The Joanne singer waited for each model and personally gave them a rose! How sweet!
Adriana Lima, now in her 16th year as an Angel, told THR backstage before the show that she works out six days a week. “Since I’m not young anymore I have to work hard to keep up. I try to work out six days a week, even if it’s just 20 minutes, because it’s a lifestyle to work out,” said the 35-year-old, who added that a regimen of boxing and squats are what keeps her in model form.
Jasmine Tookes – who is the lucky angel to wear the 3-million-worth Bright Night Fantasy Bra, shared her emotions, saying “It was such a surprise to me. I don’t know how they chose, but I am so honoured to have this opportunity, and be able to walk down the runway with this beautiful thing.” Designer by Eddie Borgo, the stunning bra boasts 9,000 hand crafted jewels, weighed about 450 carats, and took over 700 hours to create!
